Navigating the Alterations Process

Your wedding gown has arrived - Yay!  But, now what?  It's time to tailor the dress to make it fit you perfectly - it's alterations time.  Whether it be a small tweak, a major design change or likely, something in between, nearly every wedding gown needs some type of adjustment.  And, at Mia we have a list of experienced seamstresses who specialize in wedding gown alterations making that gown "fit like a glove"!

When Does the Process Begin?  Alterations typically take about 2 months to complete, but of course, it can take longer or less time depending on your circumstances and what needs to be completed. Unless, you are expecting to drop drastic weight, there really is no reason not to go ahead and begin the alterations process once your gown arrives.

Where Do I Go?  We have researched and built relationships with several Houston seamstresses for our Mia Brides.  These women have an unbelievable amount of expertise and experience!  Our favorites to make the final tweaks to your dress are Widad's Couture Alterations, Jenny Kim Couture, Linda's Couture and Q Alterations. Conveniently located around Rice Village, Galleria and Uptown Park these professionals will know just what to do so you feel beautiful and comfortable on your wedding day!

What is the Process?  Usually the alterations process entails three fittings.  At the first fitting you and your seamstress will discuss what you want/need and pin the dress for the perfect fit - you will talk about boning, structure, crinoline, hems and bustles. The second fitting is a work in progress; there may be exposed seams, pins and loose threads on your gown - it's OK and normal!  And, finally, the third fitting is a dress rehearsal of sorts, the modifications to the gown will be complete and you can see and feel exactly how you will on your big day!

Having your wedding gown fit your body is truly such an important final step.  The perfect gown paired with that fantastic fit will make you feel wonderful and allow you to enjoy your day to it's fullest!

Be Your Own Legend

We are having an amazingly hard time containing our excitement at Mia Bridal Couture!  Legends by Romona Keveza is our brand new line, and we are hosting our very first trunk show August 11th-12th.  The classic bridal collection was launched in 2005 by Keveza, who was (and is) inspired by legendary fashion icons such as Grace Kelly, Jacqueline Kennedy and Audrey Hepburn.  I mean, what's not to love?!

Romona talks a bit about her current collection, "This season, in a time of global uncertainty and unrest, the collection is inspired by the peaceful and harmonious undercurrents that only a union can bring, and is dedicated to every bride who embraces the sentiment of love."  The collection has always encouraged brides to be the greatest version of themselves, and to "Be Her Own LEGEND!"

We can't wait to share the excitement with you!  Join us August 11th-12th, along with Legends Style Representative, Tara, for your personalized appointment.  Call 713.622.2022 to book your appointment today!
5 Wedding Day Tips

As a bride, you are juggling what feels like a million tasks from the moment you get engaged.  While your to do list may seem like it never gets shorter - cross one thing off an add two more - on your wedding day (or maybe the day before), it will be time to relinquish control and enjoy. Whether or not every item has been checked off, here are a few tips to help make the most of your big day.

1.        A Bride Bag.  We recommend starting a “bride bag” for your first fitting.  In it, put everything you think you need for your first fitting; strapless bra, undergarments, jewelry, hair piece, etc.  When you put the gown and all accessories on at your fitting you will know if you are missing something.  Jot down a quick note of what you need to add to your bag and be sure to stick those items in there before your next fitting.  If you keep all the items you need in one bag, when wedding day rolls around, you will know without a doubt you have everything you need.  I used a bright red bag when I got married because I liked that I could easily and quickly know where that bag was due to it’s color, but personalized sparkly bags sure are fun!

2.       Wake Up Refreshed.  Get some rest the night before your wedding so you can truly enjoy the day.  While it may be hard to settle down due to the excitement of the grand event, you will be happier if you can catch some ZZZ’s.

3.       Eat an energizing, filling breakfast.  Once you get into the fun of hair, makeup and getting ready you may not have time or feel like eating anything.  So, be sure to make time for a nutritious breakfast to keep you moving all day!

4.       Give yourself plenty of time to get ready.  The last thing you want on your wedding day is to feel rushed.  Be sure to allow enough time in the itinerary so you can enjoy the time with your bridesmaids, mom and others who are helping you get ready.  You will be happier to have 20 extra minutes than being 20 minutes behind schedule.

5.       BREATHE and Enjoy! You have spent many hours over the course of months planning this event and now it’s time to really soak it all up.  Be conscious to absorb as much of this day as you can.  I'm sure many people have told you “it goes by so fast” and believe me, they are right.  Let go of any detail from your to do list that may not have been completed and ENJOY your day!

Mia Bride: Janice and Matt

When Janice arrived for her appointment at Mia Bridal Couture, she already has a top gown in mind: a beautiful, lace sheath by Watters Bride that would be perfect for her botanical wedding at the Hermann Park Conservatory. However after slipping into a simple, fitted gown by Martina Liana, she realized her top picked had some competition. After going back and forth between the two gowns, there was only one solution. The two gorgeous gowns were unique enough that Janice decided not to pick between the two, she picked both!

She walked down the aisle in a stunning, strapless Mikado gown by Martina Liana. Beautiful in it's simplicity, Janice instantly fell in love with its bridal feel and unique geometric seams. For the reception, Janice changed into her first love, a short sleeve sheath by Watters Brides. The gown featured a speciality lace that included metallic threading. The gown was comfortable and light which allowed Janice to dance the night away.

The weekend fun continues with our first trunk show featuring the Spring 2018 collections. For Alyne Bridal this season, Rita Vinieris sent us on "a journey through the pink looking glass where one finds love, peace and harmony allowing women to find their inner confidence." The collection's whismical flair includes pink hues and flutter sleeves. As an homage to the modern, confident woman, Vinieris named each of the gowns after a word that represents said confidence. "Dainty," "Harmony," and "Feisty" can all be found in the lineup. To see the rest of the collection or to schedule and appointment, call 713.622.2022.
