Mia Celebrates the Anniversary of Jessica and Doug!

Just to warn you...we are almost certain you'll be reaching for the nearest cookie jar after reading this blog. When we reached out to Jessica for details on her love story, we didn't know she was also a baking/cooking blogger (www.cookiesandsalt.com), and this talent would end up playing a part on her big day.

On a surprise Christmas trip to St. Thomas and the British Virgin Islands, the couple started talking about marriage and how lucky they were to have found each other. Jokingly, Jessica suggested that they should elope right then and get the boat captain to marry them. And at that moment, Doug said, "Well, in that case..." and got down on one knee, pulled out the ring, and proposed.

Jessica said, "I Do!" in a blush-colored, two-piece Watters gown. The bodice featured a beautiful, delicate lace while the skirt draped layers upon layers of airy Spanish net.

"My wedding dress was the very first dress I tried on. I saw it in the window and immediately turned to my sisters and said "that's it." It was so beautiful and completely unique all at the same time.
It was perfect."

The festivities were held at Barr Mansion, a beautiful, Victorian home right outside of Austin. The couple got married under an old Pecan tree while the party continued in the ground's crown jewel, a historic Dutch barn.

Since Doug and Jessica aren't huge fans of cake, the couple opted out of the tradition all together. Instead, at the request of the groom, Doug's favorite cookies were served: Mexican Hot Chocolate Cookies. A recipe created by Jessica, herself.

Fun Fact From The Bride: "After my dad walked me down the aisle and everyone sat down, our minister asked for everyone to turn off their phones. Instead of turning off his phone, my dad accidentally turned on his ITunes. Bob Seger began blaring from his phone. It took my dad almost an entire song to turn it off. Our minister began our vows with, "As we are gathered here today to unite these two people in the presence of God and Bob Seger..."

Jessica and Doug now live in Houston with their dog, Frankie, who likes to eat all of their socks and Doug still loves eating all of the cookies.
