Ariana, A Feathered Delight

Erin, Stylist

Have you ever gotten so busy that you forget to 'stop and smell the roses?' Well, here at Mia we have been so caught up in Bridal Market and our upcoming Kenneth Pool Trunk Show (starting on Thursday!) that we decided to take a minute to really delve in to what makes some of our gowns SO stunning!

With this detail-focused mind set, we are so excited to tell you all about Ariana by Kenneth Pool. Not only does she ooze couture glamour from afar, she also has some of the most amazing details around. Her delicately ruched bodice features Kenneth Pool's gorgeous sweetheart neckline, and a figure-flattering dropped waist to boot! The full tulle and ostrich feather skirt is an absolute show stopper. Each tuft of three feathers is hand-sewn into place, as is each layer of tulle! Here are a few images of the detail in the skirt:

Market Journal: Day 1

Emily, Co-Owner

I love our time in NYC but let's face it, my heart belongs to Texas. It is wonderful to be back in Houston!

Ghost chair at Judd Waddell

Since touching down on Tuesday evening, I have been brainstorming on how to present the market highlights to you (those Facebook pictures were just a tiny taste!). What I decided is to do a day in the life of market mania! There is so much to share, so keep an eye out Day 2 and a Trending Now highlight post coming soon. I hope you in enjoy...

Sunday, Oct. 14th:

9:00 AM- The Mia team walked into the lobby of Judd Waddell's design studio and were greeted by Lori and Monty of "Say Yes to the Dress-Atlanta" singing (yes, singing!) "It's the most wonderful time of the year."

Welcome to NYC Bridal Market and get ready to have fun!

Hi-low nostalgia at
Judd Waddell

My & Monty's fav sparkle at
Judd Waddell

9:45 AM- Judd Waddell's collection didn't disappoint; wispy silhouettes and reinvented hemlines. Overheard Lori saying the hi-low hems gave the collection a 1950's feel.

Lori also called Monty out as a "prom king" when he gushed over Judd's dash of sparkle. It was one of my favorites too, so can I be the prom queen?

Glamour at Judd Waddell

9:50 AM- Mia partner Starla
dashed off to look at Jim Hjelm bridesmaids for her other store, Brickhouse Bridal. No pictures to share, but word is over 80% of bridesmaids orders have been long so the design team kept their energy in that direction.
10:30 AM- Jill & I run over to the Hilton to see The Wedding Channel's set-up and select our gowns with the fabulous Paloma Blanca team. They always make things so easy.
Front row at Austin Scarlett

Buzz before Austin's show

11:30 AM-
Actually arrive early to Austin Scarlett's runway presentation at the Park Avenue Armory, so I get a little snap happy while waiting for the show.

12:15- Austin Scarlett's runway presentation begins. Included with the runway line sheet is a quote from him, "Your first collection is like your first love."

& myself
12:45- The Mia team invited Houston Bride's editor Holly Crawford to join us for the show, so we couldn't resist such a great photo opp.

12:55- Off to a very quick brunch with a NYC friend of Jill's. (We have to squeeze in eating!) She has a table a brunch cocktails waiting at Robert. I highly recommend going if you are in the city. Get the tater-tots.

2:00- We work off brunch with a sprint to Alvin Ailey for Rivini's runway presentation. Designer Rita Vinieris was inspired by the hues of early morning and the reflecting light of the Ice Hotel in Sweden. Absolutely breathtaking!

To Market, To Market

Emily, Co Owner

It is so fitting that Bridal Fashion Market occurs in the Fall and again in the Spring. The quintessential time of the year representing change, crispness, reawakening and bright potential, which is exactly the feeling Bridal Market brings to us as store owners.

Amsale runway presentation

For months beforehand we wonder, how will they amaze us next? Just when you thought you've seen every version of a wedding gown, the runway lights dim, the music comes on and that first model rounds the corner. Instantly, your jaw goes to the floor and you remember just why you love this industry so much.

Around this time of year, I always remember to send up a little thank you that I am able to be a part of such a creative and energetic business. It's also amazingly fulfilling to play a small role in one of the most jubilant and significant days in a couple's life.

One detail that makes this Bridal Market a bit more special than all the others, we will be announcing the addition of a new couture designer. It has been painful to hold the news in, but after this weekend all the details will be confirmed!
A glimpse at the Fall 2013 Watters gown!

Over the next week, stay tuned to Facebook and our blog for clues of just whom is Mia's latest edition.

Of course, as always we will keep you posted on all the wow-factor happenings, from runway gorgeousness to the marvel that are  the Martha Stewart and The Knot parties

At the end of the day our job is to bring the best in bridal to you our brides!

The Buzz: I Do! Soiree at Hotel ZaZa

Emily, Co Owner

What an amazing group of ladies (and a few super supportive grooms) who shared their Sunday afternoon with us yesterday at the sold out I Do! Soiree hosted by Hotel ZaZa. It was so much fun chatting about bridal fashion with each of you!

I was able to steal away for a few minutes and play industry reporter. I caught up with colleagues, heard about the latest and greatest and just enjoyed seeing everyone.

Reporting live from Hotel ZaZa, here's a little buzz for you:

Photographer Steve Lee & family
- Chatted with Summar Salah, editorial fashion stylist for Weddings in Houston. WiH's shoot for the Winter issue just wrapped last week. The shoot took place at the Asia Society Museum; think modern and oppulent.

- Caught photographer Steve Lee strolling among the vendors with his lovely wife Anid and their sweet baby girl Lauryn. The Lee family had just returned from California where they found the perfect balance of work with some fun beach days.

- Saw wedding planner Jo Ann Woodward gathering ideas for her brides. She is fresh from a much deserved vacation and looking forward to a full Fall schedule.

Neal Hamil model, Brittany Griffin
- Nadine, owner of Who Made the Cake, featured a most novel invention that all the brides were raving about, Cake Shots! Function, flavor and a most perfect wedding favor for your guests.

- One of our very favorite Neal Hamil models Brittany shared the exciting news that she was accpeted to a private college in Florida. We are so happy for her, but will miss her so much next year!

- Claudia of a Day to Remember is dreaming up a bridal shoot with a Gothic spin. Very intriguing!

- Cakes by Susie featured a jaw dropping, three and a half foot, rotating cake that was a stunning replica of a bride's gorgeous gown. The cake retails for $5,000 plus. Wow!

Past intern Kat, bridal consultant Erin, our Neal Hamil gals,
current intern Lucy & co-owner Emily

- Past Mia intern Katherine popped by to say hello and take a quick pic with the team.

Hope to see you at the next I Do! Soiree!

On the Rise-Strap Appeal

Erin, Stylist

Looking through bridal magazines today, we are shown stunning strapless gowns in abundance...but what about the bride who decides that a gown with straps makes her heart skip a beat? Where is she to go for her gorgeous gown? Why to Mia Bridal Couture, of course! Taking a peek at our slecetion of gowns, I decided now is the time to showcase some of our not-so-strapless beauties.

Take the gown Hampton by Amsale-not only does she have that highly sought after sleek modernity with a calssic twist, but she offers the bride who wants to make a statement a one-shoulder option. And her clean lines and sculptural bodice are total show-stoppers!

Looking for something with a little lace? Maybe Irina by Christos is the gown for you! She is ethereal and feminine, boasting a scallped v-neck and fully built up back with buttons to boot. A touch of glamorous beading at the waist? Yes please!

If you are on the hunt for a gown with a cap sleeve, look no further than Gabrielle by Rivini. This brand new gown features intricate beadwork on a backgound of sumptuous Duchess silk satin. Seeing her in person, couture feels like an understatement!

Thinking to yourself, "Erin, these are gorgeous, but I just want something with a hint of a strap and a voluminous skirt!' Coco by Amsale is the perfect fit! With cummerbund ruching for a next-to-nothing waistline, a full silk taffeta skirt, and a delicate Alencon lace bodice, she is sure to make a jaw or two drop.

For two more beautiful lace key-hole back gowns, see our previous two posts featuring Rivini 'Lisette' and Amsale 'Taylor'! And don't forget to schedule your appointment 713.622.2022
