A Winter Wedding Wonderland

Erin, stylist

As the weather has (finally!) turned to the crisp, chilly days we expect in December, here at Mia we have come up with a few of our favorite ideas to make you winter wedding truly warm and unforgettable!

Offer guests a hint of winter whimsy at your ceremony by using arrangements of natural birch and curly willow to decorate your church or venue.

Welcome your friends and family to your cocktail hour with cup of rich hot-cocoa with hand-made marshmallows or peppermint sticks, or let them choose their own drinks at a create-your-own hot toddy bar!
Think white and silver are the only ways to go for a frosty fete? Not so! Try using a wash of icey blue offset with a rich, deep aubergine or warm scarlett. If you want to add a little sparkle to your party, consider using pewter and matte gold accents in your details and reception decor.
Keep the comfort of a cozy sweater while staying chic with a fabulous faux-fur stole, the perfect accesory for the winter bride.

A snowy send-off is the perfect end to your wonderful winter wedding!

Austin Scarlett: A Closer Look

Emily, Co Owner

Shortly before Austin left for the airport we had a moment to chat about about a few gowns and his brand. It is inspiring to see the collection through the eyes of the designer and to feel just how passionate he is about every detail.

Photography: Archetype Studio
Model: Melissa Day of Neal Hamil Agency

Runway Gown 16

Austin: This gown is a delightful surprise! I fall more in love with it every time I see it on brides. The gown is all about simplicity with a Origami feel, opening like a flower blossom. My idea was to allow the silhouette to be natural but balanced. I wish this picture showed the movement of the gown.

Emily: The neckline is something our brides absolutely loved about this gown. It feels so fresh and unique.

Austin: The soft dip of the neckline is meant to follow the line of a woman's body not be "forced" into a predictable sweetheart shape.

Runway Gown 5

Austin: I love a dress in motion, and this gown comes to life on a bride! The bride wearing lilac is feminine and delicate...just waiting for a wind to sweep her off to an enchanted garden.

The Red Wax Seal

Austin: The wax seal was actually a brainchild of Allison's (Austin's business partner and Director of Sales & Marketing for Austin Scarlett). It has a sexy, antique yet modern feel. But most importantly, we wanted the labeling to reflect that each and every gown is hand touched and crafted.

Runway Gown 10

Emily: This gown is absolutely stunning! It is so evident how gorgeous the model feels in the gown.

Austin: Originally we showed this gown in black on the runway, but we always knew we would cut it in ivory. I love the idea of creating a gown that is sexy, but elegant and sophisticated. This gown has a  true Hollywood glamour feel.

Runway Gown 20
Austin: This gown is a fun, celebration of being a woman! It's luxe, dramatic, lush! There is an obvious joy and playfulness to the silhouette.

Emily: It's an occupational hazard with this job, but if I were to get married again this would be my gown! I have never seen a fabric quite like this.

Austin: The fabric is Silk Duchess Floreale, and exclusively ours. It comes from a mill in Italy.

Emily: The pearls that you are wearing on your wrist in this picture, are those something special and dear as well?

Austin: (laughing) Those are my finest faux pearls! I was actually wearing them when I was eliminated from Season One of Project Runway.

Christos Trunk Show-A Sneak Peak!

Erin, stylist

If you haven't already heard, Mia is gearing up for our Christos Trunk Show this weekend! To whet your wedding gown whistle, here is a sneak peak at just TWO of the beauties from the Fall 2013 Collection, headed to Mia as we speak!

These lovely ladies are named 'Phoebe' and 'Althea'-their demure glamour is absolutely reflected in their names! Phoebe boasts an illusion jewel neckline and French lace bodice, giving way to an ethereal, soft tulle skirt. Althea is a little more daring, with her strapless neckline and fit-to-flare silhouette, though her light, airy skirt still gives a nod to the romance of a wedding day.

This is but a glimpse of the gowns that will be at Mia
starting today, November 15th. If you have not booked your appointment
for this exclusive event, call us today! 713.622.2022

Bride Feature: Leanne & West

Emily, Co-Owner

There are so many highlights of working with brides, but having a fabulous, repeat client really isn't one that occurs to often. However, the Reeves family have found a way to be my very favorite exception.

Leanne in her gown "Primrose" by Christos
With three daughters, the Reeves have an abundance of special milestones that call for very special gowns. From the youngest, Kathryn's, debutante presentation to the most recent event of Leanne's wedding to West Gotcher, Mia has been so honored that their dream dresses have been found at our boutique.

Leanne and her mom selected Jennifer Hobson of Keely Thorne Events to plan her gorgeous summer wedding.

Captured by Chris Bailey Photography it is easy to see Leanne's wedding was a quintessential Reeves event: chic, sentimental, vibrant, personal and definitely an epic celebration!

Ceremony: St. Martin’s Episcopal Church
Reception: Houston Country Club

Erin, Stylist

Have you ever gotten so busy that you forget to 'stop and smell the roses?' Well, here at Mia we have been so caught up in Bridal Market and our upcoming Kenneth Pool Trunk Show (starting on Thursday!) that we decided to take a minute to really delve in to what makes some of our gowns SO stunning!

With this detail-focused mind set, we are so excited to tell you all about Ariana by Kenneth Pool. Not only does she ooze couture glamour from afar, she also has some of the most amazing details around. Her delicately ruched bodice features Kenneth Pool's gorgeous sweetheart neckline, and a figure-flattering dropped waist to boot! The full tulle and ostrich feather skirt is an absolute show stopper. Each tuft of three feathers is hand-sewn into place, as is each layer of tulle! Here are a few images of the detail in the skirt:

Market Journal: Day 1

Emily, Co-Owner

I love our time in NYC but let's face it, my heart belongs to Texas. It is wonderful to be back in Houston!

Ghost chair at Judd Waddell

Since touching down on Tuesday evening, I have been brainstorming on how to present the market highlights to you (those Facebook pictures were just a tiny taste!). What I decided is to do a day in the life of market mania! There is so much to share, so keep an eye out Day 2 and a Trending Now highlight post coming soon. I hope you in enjoy...

Sunday, Oct. 14th:

9:00 AM- The Mia team walked into the lobby of Judd Waddell's design studio and were greeted by Lori and Monty of "Say Yes to the Dress-Atlanta" singing (yes, singing!) "It's the most wonderful time of the year."

Welcome to NYC Bridal Market and get ready to have fun!

Hi-low nostalgia at

My & Monty's fav sparkle at
Judd Waddell

9:45 AM- Judd Waddell's collection didn't disappoint; wispy silhouettes and reinvented hemlines. Overheard Lori saying the hi-low hems gave the collection a 1950's feel.

Wispy at Judd Waddell

Lori also called Monty out as a "prom king" when he gushed over Judd's dash of sparkle. It was one of my favorites too, so can I be the prom queen?

Glamour at Judd Waddell

9:50 AM- Mia partner Starla
dashed off to look at Jim Hjelm bridesmaids for her other store, Brickhouse Bridal. No pictures to share, but word is over 80% of bridesmaids orders have been long so the design team kept their energy in that direction.
10:30 AM- Jill & I run over to the Hilton to see The Wedding Channel's set-up and select our gowns with the fabulous Paloma Blanca team. They always make things so easy.

Buzz before Austin's show

11:30 AM-
Actually arrive early to Austin Scarlett's runway presentation at the Park Avenue Armory, so I get a little snap happy while waiting for the show.

12:55- Off to a very quick brunch with a NYC friend of Jill's. (We have to squeeze in eating!) She has a table a brunch cocktails waiting at Robert. I highly recommend going if you are in the city. Get the tater-tots.

2:00- We work off brunch with a sprint to Alvin Ailey for Rivini's runway presentation. Designer Rita Vinieris was inspired by the hues of early morning and the reflecting light of the Ice Hotel in Sweden. Absolutely breathtaking!
